A couple of months ago, I bought the first book in the Wonder Woman Archives series. I must say that it looks like a mainstream bondage comic by Stanton or Eneg. Wonder Woman is constantly abducted by her enemies. She is then chained, gagged, hogtied etc. I was like, "hmm.. why Klaw and company took it underground when there's an example that shows you can easily go mainstream with bondage".
I think it's the same with John Willie's magazine, Bizarre. I mean from what I understand, Bizarre was sold in newstands! And this is like the end of the thirties and then in the fifties, people suddenly go and say bondage is taboo or must stay underground. Weird.. Well, forced to ( or chose to ) stay underground or not, bondage most definately creates a captivating aesthetic that added something special to Wonder Woman's image.
